I painted a mural for my AP Environmental Class that now hangs in the school garden. For this mural, I twisted the message of the Historical Manifest Destiny Painting. In the original painting, the Goddess was moving forward, dragging electrical lines and industry with her. However, 200 years later we can see the detriments of industrialization: icebergs are melting, parks are polluted, oil has damaged the oceana wildlife. So, in my mural, I wanted to depict the environmental aftermath of the 'Manifest Destiny'. Instead of the Goddess moving foward, she is turning backward and seeking out the past. The mural offers a glimmer of hope about the future when she carries the alternative technologies with her.
