3 Female Stereotypes: An Online Experiment
I dressed up as different stereotypes for Tinder and saw what kinds of responses I would get from men. I swiped right (meaning ‘liking’) the same amount for all three of my stereotypes, and conversed with some men on all of my accounts. For the final project, I put three phones with my profiles on a pedestal and put graphics of my connections on the wall, asking people to interact with the profiles on the phones to directly see the results for themselves

1st Stereotype: Anime Fantasy
The "Anime Fantasy" is a fetishized, cute, anime-like woman who is usually seen as docile and sexually complacent. I created a fake profile of "Angela" on Facebook and Tinder, to resemble the interests of the anime fantasy. Angela is a 20 year old college student in Dusquene University who is into games and anime.

On the app, I noticed that I got many responses from men, from messages ranging from sexual (despite me dressing as a child) to interests, and to "hey."

2nd Stereotype: Sexy Asian Woman

For this, I dressed up as the sexy asian stereotype who is in Pitt as a sociology major, from Beijing and saw what people would say. about Selena. I got more responses and some pick-up lines involving caucasian men writing Chinese or talking about China. There were also more sexual comments.

3rd Stereotype: Model Minority

For the last profile I posed as Megan, a perfect Asian daughter who was a smart, ambitious, well-rounded, and a bit generic pre-med student at Columbia University who played the flute and piano

For this Tinder profile, I noticed that I got less conversations matches from men and the comments were nicer. Also, generally the conversations were about my university, or how nice I looked with the flute and the piano. I conversed with someone and eventually confessed that this was an art project because it was the humane thing to say the truth and he seemed genuine, despite the parameters of my art experiment. Eventually I messaged him but he didn't respond.
