Breakup Dolls

An ironic communication tool to breakup with someone. The dolls are fun, soft, and huggable - everything you need to get over a breakup. It's a gift that not only provides comfort and sincerity in it's form, but also communicates the serious desire to breakup.

I first thought about conditioning, or being habituated with an object to get over something. Being constantly in the presence of something we don't like or are afraid of can help us get over our fears. My first sketches were my personal failures that I wanted to get over. Then, it evolved into focusing on making plushes that focused on the theme of failures of relationships, which then evolved into an ironic "break-up" communication tool.

Educational Doll-Rachel Carson

I wanted to make an educational doll for children that was also fun and could teach important facts about history and notable activist. I thought about how we remember more things when we see it constantly and if the information was presented in an engaging way. For kids, having a stuffed educational toy beside them always in bed, might be the engaging solution to educate kids.

To make learning about "Rachel Carson" the environmentalist more engaging, I put stuffed dolls inside of her that spoke about her achievements. this could lure kids to play with the doll and learn about her smaller achievement dolls inside of her. The concept for "dolls being in dolls" came from the concept of people being "made up" of their achievements. This doll exemplifies this concept literally. I put engaging symbols on the smaller dolls(inside of her) that represented each of her achievements and a description of her achievements on the back of each smaller doll.
